Shang Fang Garden Villa

Roger Bevan, senior contemporary art market correspondent for the Art Newspaper, brought a group of 35 visitors to Shang Fang Garden Villa to view the exhibition of Xiao Hui Wang and Ma Shuqing. The group was given a curated visit of the villa by Elisabeth de Brabant.

Shang Fang Garden Villa

“Duo” is the joint exhibition of the artists Xiao Hui Wang and Ma Shu Qing. These two esteemed artists and long-time friends will exhibit their works together for the first time in a unique 1930’s Shanghai venue, Shang Fang Garden Villa. The exhibition presents both artists’ dialogue with the feminine. Each artist translates this dialogue in their particular medium—Ma Shuqing through oil painting and watercolor, and Xiao Hui Wang through video and photography.

The partnership between artist Xiao Hui Wang and curator Elisabeth de Brabant continues in Shang Fang Garden Villa, the venue in which Elisabeth first curated a solo exhibition of Xiao Hui Wang in 2008.

City Beat Features Shang Fang Garden Villa

The TV program "City Beat" will be airing an interview with Elisabeth de Brabant at her Shang Fang Garden Villa. Also used as a venue for private exhibitions in Shanghai, the house was first designed in 1937 by English architects and was renovated by the architects James Saywell and Wilfrid Wong (Wilfrid Wong Design Int'l. Ltd). Shang Fang Garden was once a glamorous gated community, one very sought after as a residential neighborhood during the 1930’s and 40’s. Elisabeth has chosen to invite artists such as Xiao Hui Wang to create and show a particular series of works in the house.

Airing times: August 18, 8-9pm; August 19, 3-4pm

Shang Fang Garden Villa

Isolated Paradise is an exclusive solo exhibition of the artist Xiao Hui Wang, who lives in both Shanghai and Munich. The exhibition is a comprehensive presentation of her latest works (photography, sculptures and multimedia arts). Many of the works were created in the private villa in which the exhibition will take place, a villa which bears a strong conception of contemporary art and an abundant Chinese traditional and humanistic character. The artist will be present during the exhibition.
