The Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center is proud to announce that from March 7 to 11, artist Caitlin Reilly and Xiao Hui Wang will be participating in the “Centennial Celebration of Women in Art—World Artists’ Exhibition” that will take place March 7 thru 11 at the Shanghai Art Museum in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the International Women’s Day.

This event has been organized by the Shanghai Women’s Federation in cooperation with Consular Spouses Shanghai, Shanghai Artists Association and Shanghai Female Artists Association, as well as the Shanghai Art Museum. The exhibition will be curated by Mati Cuenca from MoCA.

The Art Center will host an afternoon discussion with Caitlin Reilly. The artist will discuss the inspirations for her work and the collection of experiences, which have informed her works. The afternoon will be conducted salon-style and allow the audience to comment on the artist’s works, engage in conversation with the artist, and freely ask questions.

The discussion will be in English only.

'Art Opening: Suspended Arrival' from Shanghai TALK

Caitlin Reilly's Suspended Arrival exhibition, on now at Elizabeth de Brabant Art Center, charts her experience moving from her native Australia to Shanghai.

The creation and evolution of the series of work has spanned more than two years. Working with charcoal, erasers and washcloths, Reilly draws and wipes away her markings, feeding fleeting reactions and dreams into her work to create a visual journal of her "understanding of a continuing transformative experience of place".

Elisabeth de Brabant is very honored to present the works of Caitlin Reilly in China for the first time. The artist describes her work in her own words:

‘Suspended Arrival’ is a body of work on paper that is underpinned by an autobiographical subtext. My work is a direct response to my surroundings, daily comings and goings and a reflection of my environment both physically and emotionally. By working quickly a suspension of conscious knowledge was shaped into a coherent whole. The outcome was a layering of histories and surfaces that held mistakes to ransom, their erasure becoming an extension that expanded an understanding of a continuing transformative experience of place.
