In an effort to recognize Austin's top artists for their achievements in the field — and to expand, promote, and document Austin's role as a leading arts destination — the Austin Visual Arts Association, in conjunction with the arts industry, launched the first Austin Visual Arts Awards on Friday, December 4th, 2009 at 7 p.m., with a cocktail gala at the Austin Museum of Art. The event paid tribute to the many noteworthy Austin artists who have earned a place in history, as well as to Austin's rising contemporary artists. Dozens of art industry organizations - including museums, galleries, studios, and professional associations - participated in the selection process to honor Austin's leading artists.

Artist Beili Liu was awarded with the Artist of the Year Award for 3D/Mixed Media work.

Solo Exhibition of Beili Liu 刘北立个人艺术展

Beili Liu is a contemporary Chinese-American conceptual installation artist who will be represented in China for the first time at the Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center. She is an accomplished artist who has seen much recognition in the United States. Art in America Review has commended her works for being “materially simple but metaphorically rich” (Janet Koplos, April 2009).

美籍华裔刘北立是一位媒体概念装置艺术家，博雅珊艺术中心第一次在中国展示了其作品。她的作品在美国陪受好评，美国艺术评论这样描述她的作品：“材料简单却隐喻深刻” (Janet Koplos, 2009年4月)。

Beili Liu was invited for an Artist in Residency at Fundacion Valparaiso. It is the mission of the foundation "to provide a place where creative artists can find peace to concentrate on their work, free from the distractions and duties of daily life."
