Luo Er Qi Solo Exhibition

spNO.12-23.5-28.jpg

March 31 - April 25, 2010

Art Center, Lower Gallery

This solo exhibition presents the artist’s most recent series of works, ‘Shape of Pictures'. Drawing from his experiences growing up around dance and music ensembles, Luo Er Qi has developed a visual montage, a layering of memories inspired by films, novels, and theater from around the world, including French, American, and Chinese narratives. His works are reminiscent of a world that is familiar yet surreal. A visual linguist, Luo Er Qi's affinity for language and Chinese calligraphy are embodied in his papercut works, which take inspiration from his childhood fascination with Chinese mythology and magical forms.

Suspended Arrival: Caitlin Reilly Solo Exhibition

3b.jpg

November 11 - December 15, 2009

Art Center, Lower Gallery

Elisabeth de Brabant is very honored to present the works of Caitlin Reilly in China for the first time. The artist describes her work in her own words:

‘Suspended Arrival’ is a body of work on paper that is underpinned by an autobiographical subtext. My work is a direct response to my surroundings, daily comings and goings and a reflection of my environment both physically and emotionally. By working quickly a suspension of conscious knowledge was shaped into a coherent whole. The outcome was a layering of histories and surfaces that held mistakes to ransom, their erasure becoming an extension that expanded an understanding of a continuing transformative experience of place.

Art Center, Lower Gallery 博雅珊艺术中心

In this solo exhibition of Shan Sa, the artist’s most recent series of oil paintings and poems are exhibited for the first time to the public at the Elisabeth de Brabant Art Center. This series of oil paintings and poetry was created at the Art Center in June - July 2009, during which the artist took the time to reflect on her several stays in Shanghai. Following the ideals of the traditional Chinese scholar, Shan Sa continues her work as a prominent poet-painter, pairing word and imagery in a dynamic reinterpretation of time and space.
